How to disconnect and delete your WhatsApp chat backups from Google Drive

When it comes to completely deleting your WhatsApp conversations, simply deleting them from your phone is not enough.

If you are an Android user, you should also consider deleting Google Drive backups that have not been encrypted until recently, which means they can be as accessible as possible, if someone were to log into your Google account.

Additionally, deleting those chats can create space on Google Drive storage, now installed at 15GB. You should, however, be aware that once you have deleted your conversations from Google Drive, there will be no way to restore them.

Last week, WhatsApp started releasing its much-anticipated end-to-end encryption for WhatsApp chat backups. Encryption is delivered to WhatsApp users in both Android and iOS platforms around the world.

To create an encrypted backup copy, make sure it is the latest version of WhatsApp. If you tolerate that, open Settings> Conversations> Chat Backups> Encrypted Backup to Complete, and follow the instructions to create it.
